Play it Forward Grant

Eligible applicants must:

• Be a registered non-profit or charitable organization.
• Operate in the Greater Edmonton and/or Parkland County areas.
• Offer sport or physical activity programs for youth aged 4 to 18. Organizations serving young adults aged 19 to 21 may be considered if programming aligns with the Foundation's mission.

The Play it Forward Grant will prioritize applications for programs for underrepresented and disadvantaged youth. Should there be funding available for general youth programs, they may be considered.

For the purposes of this grant, underrepresented and disadvantaged youth are those who face systemic, financial, social, or geographic barriers to participation in sport or physical activity. This may include, but is not limited to:

• Youth experiencing poverty
• BIPOC youth
• Youth living with disabilities
• Girls or gender-diverse youth participating in male-dominated sports
• Youth in rural or underserved communities

Grant funding may be used for initiatives including, but not limited to:

• Purchasing or repairing sporting equipment
• Reducing or subsidizing registration or participation fees
• Covering facility or field rental costs
• Supporting transportation costs (e.g., travel to and from games or practices)
• Paying league or competition fees
• Expanding inclusive sport or physical activity opportunities for youth with disabilities
• Supporting sport programming for youth in rural communities

The Foundation does not fund:

• Operating or administrative costs (e.g., salaries)
• Capital equipment purchases
• For‑profit organizations
• Projects not focused on youth sport or physical activity
• Deficit financing or requests covering 100% of total project costs

Applications are submitted through the Play It Forward Grant Application Form below and are accepted throughout the year.

Applications are reviewed by the Play It Forward Grant Selection Committee, with successful applicants notified by email within 8 weeks of application.

Applications will be assessed using the following criteria:

• Alignment with the Foundation’s mission
• Community need and potential impact
• Accessibility and inclusion
• Program reach, capacity, and feasibility
• Budget clarity and responsible use of funds

Successful applicants must submit a final spending report, including receipts and a description of how funds were used, within 60 days of expenditure.

Grant amounts vary each year depending on funds raised and applicant needs.

Applications may be declined if they are incomplete, submitted late, do not demonstrate financial or community need, request funding beyond the Foundation’s capacity, or do not align with the Foundation’s mission of inclusion and accessibility in youth sport.
